Welcome back to the second installment of our three-part historical series about Söll. After exploring the origins of this charming Tyrolean village in the first episode, we now focus on its history of princely rule and times of war.

In 1342, the village fell under the control of Tyrolean princess Margarete Maultasch, who presumably used Söll as a hunting residence. Söll officially became part of Tyrol in 1504, but was largely spared from wars due to its remote location and poorly developed transportation routes. Exceptions were the conflicts during the Tyrolean fight for freedom in 1809 and towards the end of the Second World War, when the village almost became the scene of a major battle.

In the third and final installment of our series, we will explore how Söll has developed into a mecca for tourism. Stay tuned!
