Every year at the beginning of fall, theThe cattle drive takes place in the Wilder Kaiser region, as well as in the entire Alpine region. Without a doubt a major highlight in late summer in the Austrian Alps.
Since time immemorial, the cattle have been driven back from the Alpine pastures to the meadows in the valley and the stables at home. This tradition is still practiced and celebrated today.
The alpine summer lasts around 100 days for the cows. 100 days in which the animals eat their fill on the lush green mountain pastures and are looked after by shepherds every day.
For the cattle drive in late summer, the animals are decorated with colorful wreaths and return to the valley with their loud bells. The traditional wreath made of various mountain flowers, mountain pine, silver thistle and colorful ribbons is an integral part of the cattle drive.
Once in the valley, the cattle are reassigned to their owners. Even though it may seem that every cow looks the same, they always find the right way home.
The Almabtrieb is a spectacle that you definitely have to see at least once. Unfortunately, the Almabtrieb festival in Söll is not taking place this year, but the anticipation for next year is all the greater when the cows set off on their journey again .
